Brief

In collaboration with George P Johnson, we embarked on creating an Interactive installation for the NRF 2020 Vision Show in New York City. The goal of the experience was to enable SMEs to understand how IBM can help them.

Our Approach

We created an interactive application that enabled users to build their dream store by making selections on a touchscreen. This is complemented by a display screen where they can view their selections in real-time. An attractor sat at the top of the installation showcasing an animation of a world filled with dream stores.

Ceramic RFID-enabled objects located on shelves in the installation initiated the journey by being placed on the reader. These components came together to engage the user and present solutions that were relevant for them. The data from each user journey would enable deeper analytics about IBM’s customers.

How Did we do it

At the beginning of the journey, the user is prompted to place one of the three ceramic objects onto the reader. This triggers the experience and starts the dream store journey. An intuitive 32" touchscreen-based interface leads users through a series of questions to customise their store. They could change the style, the size and the colour as well as select key benefits that would make their business a success.

These benefits display unique animations on a 42.5" main screen and represents a variety of relevant solutions for the business owner. Once they’ve made their selections, the solutions would be revealed and the user learns more about IBM products. The user then launches their store into the 65" attractor animation and watches as it floats away in a world of dream stores. The data captured in the experience could help IBM draw insight about business owners and what’s important to them around the world.

THE SET UP

Below is a representation of how the screens are displayed and connected. The example shows the solutions being revealed to the user based on their choices and their store launching into the IBM ecosystem.
